As we all know, the flu is a highly contagious respiratory infection. More than 5,200 Ohioans were hospitalized for flu symptoms last year.

MORALES: Last year, the flu was very nasty.

That’s Maria Morales. She’s a pharmacy technician at Cornersburg Family Discount Drugs.

MORALES: Hopefully, this year is not as bad as it was last year.

Her pharmacy provides flu shots once a year, but many pharmacies give flu shots year-round.

MORALES: 95 to 100 percent of the insurances do cover flu vaccines.

Those vaccines are designed to protect against – what experts predict – will be the most common viruses for the year.

As in years past, the Centers for Disease Control and the Ohio Department of Health are recommending everyone 6 months and older get flu vaccines.

For TheNewsOutlet.org, I’m Chris Davidson.
